Style of The Tourist

With a Venetian backdrop, and a couture dresscode, Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck's The Tourist (2010) provides pure bliss for fashion lovers--and for anyone who has a remmotely good taste in travel and beauty. I was meaning to write about the style in this film, and although it seems I get fixated on certain films and actors (ahem, Black Swan) and cling on it, it's due to my fascination with cinematic fashion, blossoming to full effect. As Elise Clifton-Ward, Angelina Jolie plays an elegant and sophisticated  woman who captures Johnny Depp's character with her mysterious and classy poise. Making a statement in her vertiginously high "Elise" Salvator Ferragamo heels--customized, of course-- and Alfred Hitcock inspired looks, make this a classic fashion film in my book.  Jolie's Oscar-winning costume designer, Colleen Atwood, explains her inspiration for the looks comes from Hitchcock films and Irene Lentz, a costume designer in the 1930's (clothes on film). However, walking in a vintage black-suit and skirt with a pearl necklace gave me the impression of a sleek, modern-day Holly Golightly a la Breakfast at Tiffany's (pictured above).  The black gown worn at the ball, was yet another iconic look that left me in awe. Framing Angelina's beauty, the diamond necklace was created by Robert Procop, which was originally an antique tiara (as my personal saying goes, "old is new is old is new is old, etc.") ! But who can forget the opening scene, when she's walking in a creamy ivory ensemble decked with a camel cashmere shawl, and completed with suede gloves. Glamour (clothes on film).

Hollywood Royalty

They need no introduction; but, I do want to point out that Angelina is the Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, & Elizabeth Taylor of our time. I love her as an actress, her poise & how she carries herself. I just watched The Tourist, & am in awe of the luxurious gowns, jewels, style of Angelina's character.
