Violet Gems

At the very top of the color spectrum, violet could more or less symbolize wealth and mystery.  But if eyes are indeed the windows of the soul, then the come-hither gaze of Elizabeth Taylor’s translucent violet eyes surpassed beyond that, with goodness, talent, and bewildering beauty.  What I admire about the late actress was her appetite for lavish luxuries—oh, you know, collecting diamonds -- yet measuring the true worth of life with philanthropic efforts, and emphasizing awareness for AIDS.  Taylor was famous for her successful cinematic career, which earned her two Oscars for her roles in Butterfield 8 (1960) and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966). She was infamous for her many marriages and her love affair with Richard Burton, whom she met on the set of Cleopatra (1963), and eventually married. twice.  She became the first actress to earn a million dollars for a film role, and also became a tabloid obsession with her relationship with Burton, hence the start of a modern celebrity’s lifestyle.
She once said, "I adore wearing gems, but not because they are mine. You can't posess radiance, you can only admire it". Dare I disagree with a Dame, but her violet gems framed by her dark arched brows left the world in admiration.  Hollywood lost a true gem, who was 79 years young (1932-2011).

Happy Oscar-Weekend

Audrey Hepburn in Givenchy, winning Best Actress in 1954.

This Sunday, don't forget to set your DVR for the 83rd Academy Awards ! I've been anticipating  the Oscars for months & months, and just thinking about the one day which truly embodies an Old Hollywood spin with some of the finest entertainers of our time, makes me swoon. The hosts? None other than James Franco and Anne Hathaway. I think it's brilliant; I love James Franco, and can not wait to watch him sparkle on stage. But first, comes the Red Carpet fashion & glamour. I hope Natalie Portman wears a dress that screams, "Yes, this pregnant lady is walking away with a golden man".
